Already present in Pisa in the 11th century, the tower represents the only medieval legacy visible in the context of the renovation of the building carried out between the 15th and 16th centuries. The tower stands near the ancient church of San Biagio alle Catene, documented since 1030 and whose remains are visible in the courtyard of the Alla Giornata palace. Two construction phases can be distinguished in the tower house: the first, relating to the nucleus of the 12th century, characterised by the use of stone, and the second, from the 13th century, characterised by the use of bricks, with a finely defined crown. especially in the details of the mullioned window with a circular column made entirely in terracotta.
