Corevi, Comune di Pisa)SMS, San Michele degli Scalzi Exhibition Centre: outside the church, on the Viale delle Piagge, there is a sculpture representing an acronym, SMS, San Michele degli Scalzi. Since 2012, the exhibition centre has as its main objective to become a reference point for contemporary arts. Its spaces were created in the former monastery, combining the original 12th-century brick construction with new materials, such as concrete, glass and steel. The entrance is on the side of the apse of the church, at the end of a staircase that makes the space below perfect for theatrical performances and concerts. Indeed, many thematic events and exhibitions have taken place there over the years. In the entrance there is a nice mural by Pisan artistOzmo, from 2013, a reinterpretation of the theme of Orlando Furioso, featuring F13 planes, illustrious Pisan personalities, such as Galileo, Fibonacci, Antonio Tabucchi and Angelica and Orlando intent on writing their love.
