Giuseppe Toniolo House Museum
Casa Museo di Giuseppe Toniolo (L. Corevi, Comune di Pisa)At number 4 of piazza Toniolo we find the house museum of the blessed Giuseppe Toniolo where he lived from 1879 to 1919, the year of his death. A man of great culture and faith, originally from Treviso and professor of political economy at the University of Pisa. Benefactor and constantly engaged in ecclesial associations, he was a man of great lay spirituality, who promoted social initiatives of great importance, including the foundation of a Catholic University. He was proclaimed venerable by Paul VI on 7 January 1971 and beatified on 29 April 2012. On the floor where the professor lived there is a chapel, the master bedroom, the study, the library, and many other rooms. Some of these are used to welcome Toniolo's scholars and guide them through his personal writings, to support degree dissertations, or even just to explore Christian social thought. The apartment was visited by Pope Paul VI on 10 June 1965 and by Pope John Paul II in 1989.
