The Auser Musici association presents the Tuscan Early Music Festival, to be held in Pisa from Wednesday 28 June to Sunday 2 July 2023.
For the past 27 years, the Auser Musici association has been organising a Festival of Ancient Music in some of the most enchanting locations in the province of Pisa in order to let spectators discover a unique and often lesser-known artistic heritage. The formula of recent editions of the festival has been to concentrate the events in one long weekend. During each day, guided tours, tastings and other events were scheduled, preceding an initial afternoon concert that was always followed by the big evening concert.
For the 2023 edition it was decided to identify a single catalysing place for the evening events, the cloister of the Sapienza, where a stage will be erected and chairs and lights will be positioned for the entire duration of the festival.
The venues chosen instead for the afternoon concerts are the Camposanto Monumentale, the Museum of Roman Ships, the Cloister of the Museo di San Matteo and the Cloister of Palazzo Blu.
Festival artistic director Carlo Ipata has prepared a programme of great resonance.

All afternoon concerts are free of charge, with the only obligation being to pay the usual museum entrance fee, and with guided tours of all four venues.
The evening concerts, on the other hand, will be chargeable, and online sales will begin between March and April thanks to the collaboration with the Verdi Theatre in Pisa, https://www.teatrodipisa.pi.it/.
The Pisa Foundation, the University of Pisa, the Palazzo Blu Foundation, the Opera del Duomo, the Pisa Theatre Foundation, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and the Palazzo Blu Foundation collaborated in the realisation of the project.
The artists.
AUSER MUSICIANS
The Festival's ensemble in residence, Auser Musici, was founded in 1997, based in Pisa, to enthusiastically explore the musical mosaic that was 16th and 17th century Europe. Since then it has been performing in festivals and theatres all over the world under the guidance of its founder Carlo Ipata, undoubtedly one of Italy's leading experts in the Baroque repertoire. With 21 records to its credit, both in chamber and orchestral formations, and with numerous modern premieres of complete works and more, Auser Musici is now recognised as one of the most important early music groups internationally.
BYZANTINE ACADEMY
Formed in Ravenna in 1983, the group uses original instruments from the period and follows the philosophy of philological interpretation of the music performed. Over the years it has achieved considerable critical acclaim for the rigour of its performances, and its constant participation in major European festivals testifies to the group's importance and renown.
MODO ANTIQUO
The only baroque group to have received two Grammy Awards nominations, Modo Antiquo was founded by Federico Maria Sardelli in 1987. Characterised by a specific approach to Italian Baroque music and to Vivaldi in particular, Modo Antiquo is regularly invited to major festivals and the most illustrious concert halls. Its discography counts more than forty titles.
MAURO VALLI
For around thirty years he has devoted himself mainly to early music, collaborating with some of the world's leading specialists. A founding member of the Accademia Bizantina, he is currently first cello and soloist of 'I
Barocchisti' in Lugano and of the 'Complesso Barocco' directed by Alan Curtis. He regularly collaborates with Diego Fasolis, and with Maurice Steger, who is counted among the most important and virtuoso recorder soloists in the world.
FEDERICA BIANCHI
Recognised as one of the great talents of her generation, she is the winner of some of the most prestigious international competitions dedicated to Early Music. The first Italian harpsichordist selected as harpsichordist and organist by the European Baroque Academy of Ambronay (2008), and by the European Baroque Orchestra 2009 (EUBO), she has worked with some of the greatest interpreters of Baroque music, performing as soloist and continuo in the most prestigious concert halls.
FRANCESCO ROMANO
For many years he has been performing intensively as a soloist and as a member of chamber ensembles for major music institutions and festivals in Europe, America and Asia. He has collaborated with the most important
European early music groups and also with Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Christoph Coin and Giuliano Carmignola.
THE BEIJING
The ensemble was founded in Pisa in 2014 with the intention of creating a vocal group capable of tackling and performing, following a historically informed praxis, the sacred and profane European repertoire of the 16th and 17th centuries. The concerts they have promoted include the performance of numerous pages of ancient music and have received particular praise for their interpretative punctuality and performing brilliance.
