For the second time, the Municipality of Pisa is taking part in the European Week of Sport, European Week of Sport, scheduled every year to promote sport and healthy, active lifestyles. Among the events is the #BeActiveNight at the same time in all EU countries.
The Pisa White Night of Sport is in collaboration with the University of Pisa, the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), and coordinated at the national level by the Department for Sport of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and organised by Sport and Health spa. Technical sponsors of the event are Acque spa, Decathlon and HTS Verde Sportivo.
On Saturday 21 September, starting at 5.30 p.m., the streets and squares of the city centre will be transformed into equipped spaces where a wide variety of sports disciplines can be practised and the city associations that have joined in will present their activities, with demonstrations and performances.
WHITE NIGHT OF SPORT: the programme
Starting at 5.30 p.m.,125 stands and stations will be present in the historical centre, attended by Pisan sports bodies, groups and associations, with exhibition stands and demonstration activities along the entire route that will run between the Gambacorti, Galilei, Pacinotti and Mediceo riverbanks and along the axis of Piazza XX Settembre and Piazza Garibaldi, including the Ponte di Mezzo, Largo Ciro Menotti and Logge di Palazzo Gambacorti.
6.00 p.m., inauguration of the White Night on Ponte di Mezzo with a figure skating demonstration by the girls of the Skating Academy and Cresco Pattinaggio, in the presence of Mayor Michele Conti and Councillor Frida Scarpa.
From 7.00 p.m. onwards, again on Ponte di Mezzo, two in-depth talks will be held with the participation of important guests from the university sports world and champions of competitive and Paralympic sports.
Among the sports disciplines that can be learnt about thanks to the presence of the associations boxing, martial arts, dance and fencing in Logge dei Banchi; volleyball, basketball, football, padel, rugby, sailing and triathlon in Lungarno Galilei; beach soccer, dance football and various disciplines in Lungarno Mediceo; board games under the Loggias of Palazzo Gambacorti; chess and bridge in Via degli Uffizi; dance, rally and other activities in Piazza XX Settembre; archers, kalisthenia, rhythmic gymnastics and other activities on Ponte di Mezzo; dance, crossfit, fencing and other activities in Piazza Garbibaldi; table tennis, rowing, horse riding and baseball in Lungarno Gambacorti; badminton, dance, motorcycling and running in Lungarno Pacinotti; figure skating in Largo Ciro Menotti.
On the occasion of the European Week of Sport, the Youth Summer Camp 2024 will be held from 19 to 22 September at the Arsenali Repubblicani, which will take part in the Notte Bianca dello Sport and will involve 100 young people from all over Italy.
TRAFFIC CHANGES
The Municipal Police has issued two ordinances containing some changes to traffic and parking over the coming weekend, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September, to allow the ‘Notte Bianca dello Sport’ (Saturday) and the ‘European Mobility Week’ with the breakfast and aperitif on the Ponte di Mezzo, organised by Pisamo, to take place on Sunday.
In detail, the Ponte di Mezzo bridge will be closed to traffic from 14.00 on 21 until 24.00 on 22 September. Moreover, the Galilei, Gambacorti, Pacinotti and Mediceo embankments will be closed to vehicular transit from 2.00 p.m. on 21 to 2.00 p.m. on 22 September.
As far as parking is concerned, a ban with forced removal has been imposed from 8.00 am on 21 September until 2.00 am on 22 September on the Galilei lungarno (from vicolo Da Scorno to Piazza XX Settembre), the Gambacorti lungarno (from Piazza XX Settembre to Via Toselli), the Pacinotti lungarno (from Via Curtatone and Montanara to Piazza Garibaldi) and the Mediceo lungarno (from Piazza Garibaldi to Piazza Cairoli).
