Saturday 18 May sees the return of the European Museum Night, now in its 20th edition. The initiative was created under the patronage of the Council of Europe, UNESCO and ICOM to enhance European cultural identity and involves museums throughout Europe. This year the event coincides with International Museum Day, designated by ICOM- International Council of Museums. 

For the occasion, the museums of the Sistema Museale di Ateneo in Pisa and the Natural History Museum in Calci are also offering a series of events and initiatives.

MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY OF CALCI (Via Roma 79, Calci)

  • In addition to its usual opening hours, the museum will also be open from 7.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m., with free admission to all exhibitions, current exhibitions and the Freshwater Aquarium. 

It will also be possible to visit free of charge the temporary exhibition 'A Beast Sleep. Sleep in the animal world'.
Admission is permitted until 45 minutes before closing time and no reservation is necessary.

BOTANIC GARDEN AND MUSEUM (via Ghini 13/via Roma 56, Pisa)

  • In the Orchard by Night - Saturday 18 May from 9 pm

On the occasion of Museum Night 2024, the Botanical Garden and Museum offers a special free visit to the collections exhibited in the Palazzo delle Conchiglie, to talk about botany didactics and its evolution over the centuries. The visit will then continue in the greenhouses, an inexhaustible source of didactic ideas. Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes.

EGYPTOLOGICAL COLLECTIONS  (via S. Frediano 12, Pisa)

  • Night at the Museum: visit to the Egyptological Collections from 21.00 to 23.00

On the occasion of Museum Night 2024, the Egyptological Collections are organising guided tours at night to discover one of the richest collections of Egyptian antiquities in Tuscany. The guided tours will take place in three shifts of approximately 30 minutes each:

  • 9.00 p.m.
  • 9:45 p.m.
  • 10:15 p.m.

Maximum number of visitors: 23. Free event with mandatory reservation until the availability of seats is exhausted and in any case no later than 12.00 pm will become 17 May. To book send an email to info.collezioni-egittologiche@sma.unipi.it. Not accessible to disabled.

GRAPHICS MUSEUM (Lungarno Galilei 9, Pisa)

  • Free evening opening from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. with current exhibitions.

LUDOTECA SCIENTIFICA (Museo degli Strumenti della Fisica), Via dei Macelli, 2/b / via Nicola Pisano, 25 (Largo Padre Renzo Spadoni)

The Ludoteca Scientifica (Museo degli Strumenti di Fisica) offers a new edition of Galactic Park: a series of laboratories, astronomical observations and shows for adults. The event will take place from 3 to 6 p.m.

  • 6 p.m. Destination Mars by Giulia Pieraccini and Martina Carnio
  • 9 p.m. Interstellar by Lorenzo Colombo and Matteo Miluzio
  • from 10 p.m. observations of the sky with the telescope.

MUSEUM OF PATHOLOGICAL ANATOMY (Via Derna 1 - Laboratorio di Paleopatologia)

  • May 16 at 5 p.m., conference "Effects of climate change on human health in the past: a bioarchaeological perspective" by Giulia Riccomi.

Followed by a guided tour of the paleopathology collection.
