In July 1839 two lovers on the run spent three weeks of passion in a small wooden house located a few meters from the sea, along the Gombo coast, now part of the San Rossore Natural Park. Who were the two and why were they on the run?

Franz Liszt (Raiding, 1811 - Bayreuth, 1886) was one of the most famous composers and musicians of the Romantic period. He invented a new way of playing: in many of his works, the melody is entrusted to the thumbs of the two hands, thus leaving the other fingers free to juggle with arpeggios and octaves. It is said that his facial expressions and gestures reflected what he was playing, so much so that he was often mocked by the press of the time. However, the audience was ecstatic about his performances.

Marie d'Agoult (Frankfurt am Main, 1805 - Paris, 1876) was a writer, known under the pseudonym of Daniel Stern. Among her best known works Histoire de la Révolution (1848); Dante et Goethe, dialogues (1864); Esquisses morales (1849) ... She was also a friend and admirer of Mazzini with whom she had an epistolary relationship, later published: Lettres de J. Mazzini à D. Stern (1874) and Lettere della Contessa d’Agoult a G. Mazzini (1927). In 1835, she left her husband to follow Franz Liszt, with whom she lived until 1844 and to whom she gave three children (the second, Cosima, married in second marriage Richard Wagner, in 1870). They travelled a lot together, especially to Switzerland and Italy.
