Déserts, Bill Viola, USA 1994. Tribute to the great video artist who died on 12 July 2024. A protagonist of electronic art, he was able to give us a profound look at the great themes and crucial passages of existence. The tribute, in keeping with the theme of the Video Garden evenings, features two important musicians in concert, followed by a 1994 video by Bill Viola linked to Varèse's composition.
Video: Déserts, Bill Viola, USA 1994, 29'
Music: Edgar Varèse (Ensemble Modern). In this video, visual and sound phenomena intertwine, following the musical structure of Déserts (1954) by Varèse, a composition for winds, percussion and magnetic tape. Two precursors, two visionaries of electronic music and image, dialogue decades apart in a radically experimental work.
The event is in collaboration with OndaVideo, Fondazione Pisa, Comune di Pisa and Cinema Arsenale.
