The appointment with Musica sotto la Torre, a music festival organised by the Opera della Primaziale Pisana in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Pisa-Caritas Diocesana, is back. From 3 to 12 July 2024, in the Cloister of the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo di Pisa, four musical events alternating classical music and jazz, in a suggestive setting that offers the view of the Leaning Tower from a unique and enchanting perspective.
First appointment, Wednesday 3 July at 9.30 p.m., with EstrOrchestra and Chiara Morandi violin soloist. The programme includes The Eight Seasons, with music by Antonio Vivaldi and Astor Piazzolla for solo violin and string orchestra. Directed by the well-known violinist Chiara Morandi, EstrOrchestra presents itself to the public in a variety of ensembles, from the string group to the large symphony orchestra and also in chamber groups. It has been organising concert seasons for several years, with programmes that embrace every musical genre: from baroque, film music, opera, sophisticated contemporary music to Beethoven's great symphonies.
On Friday 5 July at 9.30 p.m., Vivacidade Trio plays music by Gioacchino Rossini, Nikolaj Andreevič Rimskij-Korsacov, Pixinguinha, Astor Piazzolla, Ennio Morricone, Richard Galliano, Celso Machado, Pietro Adragna and Giuseppe Sinacori. The liveliness and vivacity of South American music mixes with Mediterranean sounds to create an unprecedented artistic partnership. The virtuosity of Pietro Adragna's accordion, the sonorous sweetness of Chiara Sernesi's flute, and the expressive power of Giuseppe Sinacori's guitar come together in a new and original concert proposal.
On Wednesday 10 July at 9.30 p.m., it will be the turn of the Trio Kanon, with Lena Yokoyama violin, Alessandro Copia cello, and Diego Maccagnola piano. The Trio Kanon, whose name, in addition to having an assonance with the Canon, is also the union of two Japanese words, Ka, flower, and On, music, thus literally 'flourishing music', was born in the summer of 2012 from the friendship of three musicians who decided to share their passion for chamber music. The trio has performed in numerous concerts in Italy and abroad, gaining public and critical acclaim everywhere. The programme includes music by Ludwig Van Beethoven, Fritz Kreisler and Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.
The finale, on Friday 12 July at 9.30 p.m., with Italian singer-songwriter Simona Molinari, who offers a journey through her songs and music, inside the dense times of life: falling in love, passion, deception, disillusionment, love and commitment. The programme includes music by Simona Molinari, Ella Fitzgerald, Ennio Morricone, Francesco De Gregori, Lucio Dalla.
Proceeds from the ticket office will be donated to the Archdiocese of Pisa-Caritas Diocesana, to support the solidarity and assistance project in the area Mensa dei poveri. More than 50,000 meals were served in 2023, 685 different people benefited from them. These are the numbers of radical poverty, which is unfortunately growing, a concrete sign that there are individuals in our area who do not even have the essentials to survive. The Cottolengo canteens, for lunch and St Stephen's for dinner, have reached a peak of 150 daily attendances. The canteen is the first answer to the "help me survive" question we encounter at the Listening Centre. A service totally paid for by the church community that allows us to be close to the life made last and responds to Jesus' invitation "give them YOURSELF to eat".
