The Municipality of Pisa, in collaboration with the Pisa State Archives and the Fanny Mendelssohn Association, is organising "Paganini fa il bis", two dates dedicated to the famous violinist, re-read and interpreted by exceptional protagonists such as Marco Fornaciari, the Orchestra Suoni del Sud conducted by Roberto Molinelli, and Ettore Pellegrino.

The evenings of Wednesday 24 and Friday 26 April will be dedicated to the musician who went down in history for the proverbial phrase "Paganini does not repeat" with two concerts with free admission, while an autograph letter dated 1839 will also be on display at the State Archives.

THE EVENING PROGRAMME

Wednesday 24 April

9.00 p.m. in the Salone degli Stucchi of Palazzo Toscanelli - "Paganini in the Archives",  Marco Fornaciari will present a historical overview of the violin technique in the period before Niccolò Paganini, simultaneously playing excerpts from compositions by B. Marini, J.S. Bach, G. Tartini, K. Stamitz, G.B. Viotti and N. Paganini. The event is free admission subject to availability. Following this, some famous compositions by Paganini himself will be performed, such as the 4 Capricci, the Carnival of Venice and the Lucca Sonata. On the occasion, an original letter by the famous violinist, dated 1839, preserved in the Carmignani fund at the State Archive, will be on display.

Marco Fornaciari, from Livorno, studied in his hometown with maestro Cesare Chiti at the Mascagni Conservatory. He later graduated from the Geneva Conservatory under maestro Corrado Romano. He has performed in important halls around the world such as La Scala, Mozarteum, Salle Pleyel, Musikverein, Salle Tchaikovsky, Sidney Opera House, recording for numerous broadcasting organisations in America, Japan, Europe and Australia. He has had the honour of playing the Stradivari 1715 of the City of Cremona at various official events, and Paganini's violin at the Carlo Felice Theatre in Genoa in 2010. The Livorno Host Lions Club awarded him the 2010 Lions Prize.

Friday 26 March

9.00 p.m. at Teatro Verdi - "Paganini in jazz", concert with free admission but booking required on EventBride  EventBride https://www.eventbrite.it/e/biglietti-paganini-in-jazz-866379984857?aff=ebdssbdestsearch. Concert dedicated to the figure of Niccolò Paganini with the Orchestra Suoni del Sud, conducted by maestro Roberto Molinelli and, as violin soloist, maestro Ettore Pellegrino.

An exciting musical journey that alternates between the classical performance of Paganini's Capricci, accompanied by the orchestra, and the rewriting of each of them in a jazz version. An artistic project whose fascination lies in the extraordinary ductility of the soloist Ettore Pellegrino (violin) in being able to alternate between the classical performance of the Capricci, accompanied by the orchestra, and the rewriting of each of them in a jazz version, in which ample and free space is given to improvisation linked to Latin American rhythms, thanks also to the presence of the trio Nosso Brasil, a group specialised in Brazilian and South American music. The same orchestration of the classical Capricci, done by Maestro Molinelli, while leaving the violin writing unaltered, experiments with different genres and harmonic schemes, thus further highlighting the genius and topicality of the works of the great Genoese virtuoso and composer. In the jazz version, on the other hand, free space is given to improvisation and the use of typical South American rhythms, such as samba, bossa, choro, afoxè, without neglecting the homage to the tango.
