On Friday 15 December, at 9 p.m., the appointment with the Christmas Concert returns, desired and organised by the Opera della Primaziale Pisana with the contribution of the Fondazione Pisa and the Ministry of Culture and now in its 18th edition.
The programme includes the Magnificat for mezzo-soprano, choir and orchestra by contemporary English composer John Rutter, written in 1990. Structured in seven movements, it is based on the traditional Latin liturgical text, interspersed with Of a Rose, a lovely Rose, an anonymous English poem from the 15th century that compares Mary to a rose. In the third movement, the beginning of the Sanctus is inserted after the mention of the sanctum nomen eius. The text of the doxology in the last movement is interspersed with the prayer Sancta Maria, succure miseris.
The children's choir will conclude the concert with a performance of some traditional Christmas carols.
During the concert, the audience will have the opportunity to support, with a free offer, the solidarity project promoted by the Archdiocese of Pisa-Caritas Diocesana "Cittadella della Solidarietà".
