The appointment with the Saverio Masi Memorial is renewed, this year reaching its 27th edition. The event, which combines charity with the commemoration of the firefighter who died in a work accident in 2006, is organised by the Saverio Masi committee, the Pisa Provincial Fire Brigade and its Billi-Masi rowing sports group together with UISP Pisa, and will consist of a non-competitive walk, inclusive and open to all.
This year the proceeds of the day will benefit the Coordinamento Etico dei Caregivers di Pisa, an association that promotes and supports the rights of people with disabilities and their carers. The sum that will be donated will come both from the total of the day's registration fees and from the sale of Fire Brigade calendars and an optional prize subscription.
The route of this edition's walk will be even richer thanks to the new agreement made with the Museo e Orto Botanico dell'Università di Pisa, where a special route has been reserved that will allow participants to admire the beauties contained within. Also renewed is the collaboration with ATI Mura di Pisa, which will grant free admission to participants.
Departure in staggered groups is scheduled for 9.30 a.m. on Sunday, 26 November from the headquarters of the Pisa Provincial Fire Brigade: the walk will then pass over the city walls, cross Piazza dei Miracoli and enter the Botanical Garden of Pisa University. The route will end by returning to the barracks via a walk along the Lungarni. There will be two separate entry points to access the walk on the walls: the first from the Torre di Legno in Piazza del Rosso, for independent access; the second from Piazza delle Gondole, to facilitate access for people with walking difficulties and wheelchairs. To allow the event to take place in safety, the ANVVF of Pisa will be present, in addition to the command operators who will accompany disabled persons along the entire route, and will preside over the refreshment point and an ambulance from the Misericordia di Calci.
It is possible to register for the walk, which has a registration fee of 5 euro, by going to the Redrunning shop (Lungarno Gambacorti, 16), or at one of the two stands that will be set up on Saturday 25 November from 10 am to 7 pm: one will be in Borgo Stretto next to the Church of San Michele in Borgo; the other inside the Pisanova shopping centre, which has given its patronage to the event together with the Municipality of Pisa. Finally, it will be possible to register on the morning itself, presenting oneself from 8 to 9 a.m. at the meeting point.
