Author Dialogues (2 - 25 July)
A series of literary encounters organised by the independent bookshops of Pisa. Twelve evenings during which authors will present their works in Marina di Pisa (Marina port, piazzale delle Capitanerie di Porto). The meetings will be moderated by special guests and local personalities. The meetings will take place every weekend in July and will range from fiction to non-fiction, embracing different genres and styles.
On Friday 2 July (9.30 pm), organised by Tra le Righe bookshop, Nicola Lagioia presents "La città dei vivi" (Einaudi). Dialogue with the author Danilo Soscia. In March 2016, in an anonymous flat on the outskirts of Rome, two young men from good families, Manuel Foffo and Marco Prato, torture a younger boy, Luca Varani, bringing him to a slow and terrible death. The news immediately attracts attention, deeply upsetting public opinion.
On Saturday 3 July (at 9.30 pm), organised by the Gli Anni in Tasca bookshop, Ilide Carmignani presents "Storia di Luis Sepùlveda e del suo gatto Zorba" (Salani), moderated by Chiara Aurora Gagliano. This is a tale by Sepùlveda, the unforgettable author of The Story of a Little Gull and the Cat Who Taught Her to Fly and many other novels, and is itself the story of his life told to a cat. An adventurous, generous and intense life, "incandescent" as he himself says, narrated like a sweet and strong fairy tale - as he was - by Ilide Carmignani, his translator and friend.
Sunday 4 July (9.30 pm), organised by Libreria Erasmus, Guido Tonelli presents "Tempo. The dream of killing Chronos". Chronos is a mystery, and not just for physicists. It was for the first men and continues to be for us today. From Newton to Hamlet, from Einstein to Dali, time has been the protagonist of dizzying, fascinating and monstrous metamorphoses. Does it exist? Can it be stopped? And can its course be reversed? Guido Tonelli guides us along the tortuous path to understanding a reality that is very different from what we think it is.
Friday 9 July (9.30 pm), organised by Libreria Pellegrini, on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri's death, from the pages of a book by Davide Rondoni to the performance: "Per lei. And for everyone. Notes, voices and dances on Dante and love". Participants: Davide Rondoni, Chiara Ciribello (singing), Paola Spencer (dancing).
Saturday 10th July (9.30 p.m.), organized by Libreria Fogola, Gene Gnocchi presents "Il gusto puffo" (Solferino). Dialogue with the author the journalist and writer Chiara Cini. We are a Smurf-flavoured humanity, let's admit it. Each of us is proud of his colour, a little over the top, but without the courage to make a difference in personality beyond that indefinable flavour that tends towards vanilla. Gene Gnocchi builds piece by piece a mosaic of personal and collective stories.
Sunday 11 July (21.30) by Libreria Pellegrini, Giovanni Scifoni presents "Senza offendere nessuno" (Mondadori). (Mondadori). Interview with the author Massimo Trocchi. Twenty-one experiences of daily conflicts in which the protagonist will meet Buddhist actors, Catholic leghists, militant atheists, Lgbtq+ activists, in search of the solution to load someone else's dishwasher without offending anyone.
Thursday 15 July (9.30pm), organised by Libreria Civico 14, Franco Arminio presents a poetry reading accompanied by Pisan musician Massimo Cappellini.
Friday 16th July (9.30pm), organised by Libreria Fogola, Marco Balzano presents "Quando tornerò". (Einaudi). The journalist and writer Chiara Cini will talk to the author. Daniela has an idle husband, two teenage children and an increasingly precarious job. One night, she runs away from home like a thief, in search of something that can straighten out the lives of the people she loves - and perhaps even her own. The only way is to leave Romania and reach Italy. She should only be gone a short time instead.
Saturday 17 July (9.30 p.m.), organised by Libreria Gli Anni in Tasca, Silvia Vecchini and Antonio "Sualzo" Vincenti present "Le parole possono tutto" (Il Castoro). The meeting will be moderated by Matteo Pelliti. Sara doesn't talk much. Too many things have happened: the accident, her parents' separation, the argument with her best friend. Something inside her has stuck. But fate puts an unexpected teacher in her path: old Mr T, with his ancient stories and fixation on the Hebrew alphabet, which Sara begins to learn.
Sunday 18 July (9.30 pm), organised by Libreria dei ragazzi, presents "Alzati Martin, Ballata di Martin Luther King" (Solferino). Text by Roberto Piumini, music by Nadio Marenco. It is an epic centred on a modern hero, which recovers the form of the poem in octaves and the gospel to restore the ancient flavour of the black struggle. A story that no child, boy or adult should ever lose sight of: that of a just cause to believe in and fight for.
Saturday 24 July (9.30 pm), organised by Libreria dei ragazzi, presents "La Divina Commedia. Il primo passo nella selva oscura" (Einaudi Ragazzi). Text by Daniele Aristarco, illustrations by Marco Somà. On the seven hundredth anniversary of Dante Alighieri's death, an illustrated album to take the first steps into the Florentine poet's work. An object of wonder that adds the beauty of Marco Somà's illustrations to Daniele Aristarco's passionate text. Two new looks at the "Divine Comedy", able to dialogue with the curiosity and imagination of readers.
Sunday 25 July (9.30 pm), organised by Libreria dei Ragazzi, Alberto Pellai and Barbara Tamborini present "Destinazione vita. Life Skills: the essential baggage to face the most important journey" (Mondadori). A book to train for life, to discover and acquire all the skills needed to face the great challenges that everyone faces during pre-adolescence and adolescence.
