Five hundred years after the Lutheran Reformation, and whoever talks about music reform always ends up talking about Johann Sebastian Bach, two hundred and fifty of Georg Philipp Telemann's death, which Bach was contemporary and fellow, and four hundred and fifty from the birth of Claudio Monteverdi. Three imposing anniversaries lead Anima Mundi's 2017 billboard. And from these, as contradictions and symmetries, they are not always discounted, and many other themes, sewing together the seven concerts that engaging the most famous interpreters of the international panorama will call us again in Pisa: from Baroque Lutheran to Baroque Catholic (here Heinrich Ignaz Biber and Augustine Steffani), from the Catholic Baroque to the Catholic music of the great Classicism (and here is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, born in Salzburg shortly after the long and active stay of Biber), from Classicism to the Romantic Age Felix Mendelssohn, again in the Lutheran field, and Johannes Brahms, born Lutheran but here represented by two Marian works, and from here in the early twentieth century, with Max Reger and our times with Arvo Pärt and the winning piece of the bandit composition contest as every year by Anima Mundi.

 

Opening on Thursday, September 14th in the Cathedral, with the Hanover Radio complexes and Mozart's great masterpiece, the unfinished and grand Mass KV 427, introduced by delicate Ave Maria op. 12 of Brahms. All baroque instead the concert on Saturday 16th, with the Cologne Academy and the Cantos of Bach and Telemann. Instrumental break on Wednesday, at 8pm in Camposanto with one of today's most interesting pianists, Stephen Hough: the two series of Images by Claude Debussy, each preceded by a lunar vision followed by Fantasia op. 17th, Robert Schumann's offer for a monument to Ludwig van Beethoven, and the Beatitude, Beethoven, is one of the most beautiful monuments.

 

The Barockconsort of Freiburg and the Vox Luminis chorus on Saturday 23rd, again in the Cathedral, to pay homage to two rather obscure members of the 18th century, Biber with our Requiem and the Stabat Mater of our now-Germanized Steffani, while reporting us Campaign and instrumental music on Thursday 28th Rinaldo Alessandrini and his Italian Concert to pay homage to Bach with an unusual and exciting series of elaborations from his pages, and above all by the Goldberg Variations. Still the Lutheran culture with Antonio Greco and the choir Costanzo On Friday, 29th in the Cathedral: an organist and Neo-Baroque Reger, Mendelssohn and Brahms, framed by the piece just graduated from the composition contest and by the Salve Regina of Pärt.

 

Still in the cathedral, Friday, October 6, the closing, entrusted to Sir John Eliot Gardiner, artistic director of the last twelve editions of Anima Mundi. At the head of the celebratory ensembles who will always follow him will help his beloved Monteverdi to blow on the four hundred and fifty candles of this birthday with the most fabulous and spectacular of his sacred compositions, the Vespers of the Blessed Virgin: the best inscription you may not want in a cathedral which in Santa Maria Assunta is dedicated, and that in this pastoral year 2017-2018 will be an exceptional Jubilee celebrating the ninth centenary of his consecration.
