On Friday 2 September at 6 p.m., at the garden of La Nunziatina, there will be the presentation of Lucia Tongiorgi Tomasi's book, Il 'libro d'herbe' di Gherardo Cibo tra arte, natura e scienza (Edizioni ETS).
Present with the author will be Biancamaria Majorana, Edizioni ETS Press Office Manager.
Lucia Tongiorgi Tomasi, thanks to her studies, restores to the general public and to art and botany enthusiasts the life and work of Gherardo Cibo, an eclectic figure of intellectual naturalist, author of Libro d'herbe, a refined small manuscript, preserved today at the Marucelliana Library in Florence.
In her text Il 'libro d'herbe' di Gherardo Cibo tra arte, natura e scienza (Gherardo Cibo's 'herb book' between art, nature and science), the Italian art historian and academic illustrates to the reader, also through their reproduction, the genesis and value of Gherardo Cibo's botanical plates, a sort of visualised 'diary', a work, for its time, experimental and open, capable of combining the two forms of expression dear to its author: the botanical image and the landscape.
A herbarium that constitutes a unicum of its kind, an expression of the "modern" sensibility of a great artist and naturalist, whose contribution in the history of botanical illustration has finally been recognised and rightly valued.
