Villa del Gombo in San Rossore opens its doors to visitors.

Pioneering and extraordinary, the villa was built at the end of the 1950s by Amedeo Luccichenti and Vincenzo Monaco: the stilted structure, the ring shape, the position in the natural context and the attention to detail make it one of the most significant modern architectural interventions in Tuscany. It covers an area of approximately 640 m² and is raised off the ground by four steel supports: the compact volume is lightened by large glass surfaces that delimit a square-shaped courtyard in the centre of the plan. It represents an example of antelitteram bio-architecture, in the wake of Frank Lloyd Wright's achievements, and is characterised by four concentric spaces: the courtyard, the seamless corridor, the rooms and the terrace. Huge Persian doors open to their full width, making the façades airy in the alternation of glass and wood. Renovated, it has an air-conditioning system and photovoltaic systems, fibre optics and wi-fi, a professional kitchen, a conference room and an exhibition of period photos of presidents and buildings in San Rossore.

The first appointments will be on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September with departure from the Visitor Centre at 4 p.m., reservation required by calling +39 050-530101 Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
