Unveiling underground Pisa in underground Pisa. This is the spirit that animates the exhibition Viaggio nella Pisa sotterranea (Journey in Underground Pisa): dozens of photos taken from the book of the same name by Sandro Noto and Federico Pellicci (published by Cupressus in 2022), editors of the magazine Seconda Cronaca, and exhibited in the public baths located in the former Cobianchi day hotel, under the Logge di Banchi.

Descending into this jewel of Art Nouveau art, which from 1927 to 1966 offered Pisans and travellers a variety of services (toilets, showers, ironing room, shoe shine and even a writing room), visitors will 'explore' numerous hypogea discovered in the area, thanks to the installed images. From the former air-raid shelters to the casemates of the Sangallo Bastion, flooded for five centuries. From the Caporciano mine to the labyrinthine waterworks excavated in Monte Pisano.

The exhibition will be inaugurated on Friday 23 June at 6.30 pm (admission is free). Chiara Prosperini, author of the book Le città sotterranee di Cleopatro Cobianchi (ETS, 2003), will participate in the event, together with the editorial staff of Seconda Cronaca. She will tell the public about the history and secrets of the former day hotel.

The exhibition has been financed by Pisamo Srl, manager of the public baths, with the aim of attracting Pisans and tourists to this hidden treasure.
