Opening on Saturday 25 May 2024 at 6.30 p.m., at the historical spaces of the GAMeC CentroArteModerna in Pisa (Lungarno Mediceo n.26), curated and arranged by Massimiliano Sbrana, the exhibition 'Itinerari Artistici Pisani' (Pisan Artistic Itineraries) will allow visitors to discover the works of Pisan artists of the past and present from the early 20th century to the present day.
The 'ITINERARI ARTISTICI PISANI' initiative represents an important showcase for Pisan art, offering a comprehensive overview of artistic evolution in the city of Pisa in particular. This exhibition, which avails itself of the collaboration of the 'ARCHIVIO d'ARTE' collection of the GAMeC in PISA, not only celebrates the richness of the local artistic heritage, but also emphasises the importance of recognising and enhancing the individual and collective contribution of artists to Pisan culture. Through their works, Pisan artists of the second half of the 20th century explored a wide range of techniques and expressive languages, thus reflecting the dynamism and diversity of the artistic panorama of the period.
The exhibition aims to trace the creative paths of these artists, highlighting both the affinities and divergences between their works, and to outline the profile of a 'Pisan Artistic Movement' that, despite having long been neglected by critics, played a significant role in the history of art. The exhibition is therefore an opportunity to rediscover and re-evaluate the contribution of these artists, both those of established and lesser-known fame, who together contributed to defining a distinctive artistic identity for the city of Pisa.
The works on display are carefully selected to represent the variety and depth of artistic expressions, ranging from natural and urban landscapes to representations of the human figure, from abstractionism to surrealism, and including themes of social denunciation and spiritual introspection. This thematic diversity not only enriches the exhibition but also offers visitors the opportunity to embark on a journey through different interpretations of reality and the human experience, as seen through the eyes of these talented Pisan artists.
"ITINERARI ARTISTICI PISANI" is an exhibition project that celebrates the vitality and originality of Pisan art, inviting the public to explore and appreciate the complexity and beauty of its artistic heritage. With each exhibition, a window is opened onto the world of Pisan art, offering tangible evidence of the lasting impact and cultural importance of the artists involved. It is an immersive experience that allows one to grasp not only the aesthetics of the works but also the historical and cultural context in which they were created, thus providing a deeper understanding of art and its evolution in the city of Pisa.
