On the occasion of the celebrations for the 850th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Arsenal with the Theatre of Pisa and the Opera della Primaziale Pisana are organising the free admission double event ‘E’ viva la Torre di Pisa’.
On Wednesday 5 June at 8.30 p.m., the Cineclub Arsenale will host the screening of the documentary of the same name by Daniele Segre, introduced by Prof. Sandra Lischi and Emanuele Segre, son of the late director. The film, which takes the passage of the seasons as its temporal scan and some notations of illustrious travellers as its literary score, confronts the famous Piazza del Duomo in Pisa as a crossroads of peoples and represents its babel of languages as a symbol of peace between peoples.
On 25 June at 6.00 p.m., the Ridotto of the Teatro Verdi will host the screening of the documentary ‘Parallel Game: Mino Trafeli's Tower’ with the voice of Roberto Scarpa, who recounts the work that led the artist Mino Trafeli to create the ‘Leaning Tower’ for the 1981 Carnival. The projection starts from the sketch made by Volterra artist Mino Trafeli for the construction of the majestic, walkable, fibreglass tower that was one of the most spectacular attractions of the 1981 Carnival.
The sketch, owned by the Fondazione Teatro di Pisa, will be on display in the exhibition ‘La Torre allo specchio’ (The Tower in the Mirror), organised by the Opera Primarziale Pisana for the 850th anniversary of the founding of the Bell Tower.
The event is free admission.
