Thursday, January 9 at 17:30 in the church of Santa Maria della Spina will repeat the appointment for the dissolution of the ancient vow made to San Ranieri by the Pisani on the occasion of the "terrible" flood of Arno on January 2, 1777. To thank the Patron, to whom a prayer of protection had been addressed, for having spared the city death and destruction, our ancestors, together with the rulers, promised to celebrate in perpetuity every year a votive mass. For many years Pisa has dissolved that vote (the ceremony took place in the church of San Vito where Ranieri died), then everything was interrupted until 2012 when, on the initiative of the Company of San Ranieri, the Feast of the Sacred Vow (so called the recurrence) was restored, Celebrating every year the Holy Mass in the church of the Spina, with the devout participation of the citizens and the homage to the Saint of the Municipal Administration. Also this year, the 248 o Anniversary of the Vow, the Society of San Ranieri organizes the Holy Mass celebrated by Archbishop Giovanni Paolo Benotto. The celebrations will take place on Thursday, January 9, 2025 in the church of the Spina according to an articulated program: at 17:15 influx of Authorities, guests and guests; at 17:30 report on "Leonardo Ximenes and the new hydrological arrangement of Tuscany" By Prof. Massimo Dringoli, City Planning Councillor of the Municipality of Pisa; at 18.00 the Holy Mass celebrated by the Archbishop during which will take place the tribute of the Municipal Administration to San Ranieri, prayer and blessing for the city. The ceremony will be animated by the Little Singers of San Nicola directed by M° Giulio Collavoli.
On the occasion it will be possible to visit the church of the Spina that will remain open from 15:00 to 19:00, for the devoted tribute to San Ranieri (The terracotta bust made by Daniela Maccheroni and reproducing the ancient reliquary kept in the Museum of the Opera della Primaziale will be exhibited).
