For the second year, the Opera della Primaziale Pisana is organising, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Cathedral Chapter, the Organ Vespers in the Cathedral.
From 18 January, five of the most renowned organists on the Italian and international scene will take turns at the Mascioni organ and give life to the reflective and meditative space proposed by Monsignor Severino Dianich and Monsignor Roberto Filippini.
The protagonist of the first meeting on Saturday 18 January at 5 p.m. is Thomas Ospital, titular organist of the grand organ of the Saint-Eustache church in Paris, who will perform pieces by César Franc, Louis Vierne and Camille Saint-Saëns, as well as his own improvisation on sacred melodies.
The second meeting scheduled for Saturday 15 February at 5 p.m. is with Axel Flierl, principal organist and director of the Minor Papal Basilica of St Peter in Dillingen an der Donau (Bavaria), who will perform music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Marco Enrico Bossi, César Franck.
On Saturday 29 March at 5 p.m. for Palm Sunday, it will be the turn of Johannes Skudlik with music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Léon Boëllmann, Théodore Dubois, Pierre Cochereau, Sergej Rachmaninov, Charles-Marie Widor.
On 26 April at 5 p.m. Matteo Venturini, professor of organ and organ composition at the Conservatory of Vicenza, will perform pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, Marco Enrico Bossi, Charles-Marie Widor, Thierry Escaich, and Marcel Dupré.
The last appointment is with Andrea Macinanti from Bologna, who will perform music by Marco Enrico Bossi on Saturday 10 May at 4 p.m.
