There are many small free beaches in Marina di Pisa, but the most characteristic is that of white stones. The phenomenon of beach erosion was already visible at the end of the 19th century and still continues today.In the 1940s, the unstoppable erosive action also destroyed the last wooden chalets by the sea and the bombing did the rest. The solution adopted for several years to counter erosion and maintain a beach along the town's boulevard is to use tons of white stones, along with rocks and breakwaters that act as a barrier.
