'4 Seasons on the Walls': Sunday 8th May special nature tour on the high walkway: limited places, how to book
Lizards and nightingales, but also beech martens, weasels and even foxes: in spring the Walls of Pisa come alive not only with visitors walking along the high walkway to admire the architectural and scenic beauties of the city, but also with small animals that find a special habitat at these heights, an ecological corridor in the centre. "Thanks to the analysis of some unmistakable signs and the images collected by photos and video-traps," explains Professor Marco Zuffi of the University of Pisa, "we have confirmation that the Walls are also frequented by small mustelids at night. These discoveries with exclusive night-time images, together with the broader story of the Walls as a special natural habitat, will be the focus of the guided tour '4 seasons on the Walls of Pisa - Spring' led by Silvia Sorbi of the University of Pisa's Museum of Natural History, to be held on Sunday 8 May from 10am to 12pm, starting from the Wooden Tower behind Piazza del Rosso and ending in Piazza dei Miracoli. Tickets at 10 euros including entrance to the Walls of Pisa, 1.50 euros for the reservation fee. Limited places: info and booking links on the website www.muradipisa.it and app Walls of Pisa, calling 0500987480 Monday to Friday from 9 to 13, at the ticket office of Torre Santa Maria during opening hours.
The initiative is the result of the collaboration and agreement between Mura di Pisa and the Museum of Natural History of the University of Pisa, a collaboration that already provides cross-discounts for people visiting both tourist sites during normal opening hours.
On Saturday 14th May, all day long, the Walls will be invaded by cosplayers from all over Italy for the event 'I frammenti del tempo' (The fragments of time), an interactive journey through history and fantasy in collaboration with Alnilam Arts, a puzzle-solving game that will allow participants to meet the likes of Fibonacci, Kinzica and Galileo.
Lastly, on Saturday 21th May, for the first time, 'Pisa from below and above': an unprecedented visit to the city, first by boat on the Arno and then on the high-altitude walkway from Piazza delle Gondole to Piazza dei Miracoli, in cooperation with Top5Viaggi. Information on the website www.muradipisa.it and on the new free Mura di Pisa app.
