Porta Buoza - Complesso dell’Ospedale Santa Chiara (G. Gattiglia)In 1909, a major extension of the hospital of Santa Chiara led to the demolition of a long stretch of medieval walls. The only remaining piece of the walls inside the hospital is the thirteenth-century Buozzi gate, whose name seems to derive from that of the Buozzi family who had some property in the area. According to another hypothesis, however, the name derives from the numerous bòzzi, or marshes, present on the outside of the walls.
