Built on a project by Milanese architect Cecilio Arpesani and commissioned by Cardinal Pietro Maffi of Pisa, it was inaugurated in July 1916 with solemn celebrations. The church is built in a neo-Romanesque style and incorporates the elements of the Pisan Romanesque style, which was born in 1064 with the Assunta Cathedral in Piazza dei Miracoli: on the façade two levels with lateral slopes and a facing alternating bands of white and black marble.
