Remembering Mazzini in the sign of art and culture.
On the occasion of the 153rd anniversary of Giuseppe Mazzini's death, which took place in Pisa on 10 March 1872, the Domus Mazziniana, the public research institute dedicated to the figure of the patriot and thinker, is promoting, in collaboration with the CIDIC - the Centre for Innovation and the Diffusion of Culture of the University of Pisa - and the Associazione Mazziniana Italiana, a cycle of events dedicated to art with the ambition of bringing together tradition and the contemporary to promote Mazzini's message in a current and renewed form, which will take place from 7 to 10 March.
PROGRAMME
Friday 7 March at 9 p.m. - Teatro Nuovo
"Risorgimento Pop", a theatrical performance with Daniele Timpano and Valerio Malorni, produced by Gli Scarti and Kataklisma Teatro, text and direction by Daniele Timpano and Marco Andreoli. A revisitation in a surreal key of the events of the Risorgimento, starting with the mummification of Mazzini's body.
Saturday 8 March - Domus Mazziniana
- 10 a.m. presentation reserved for members of the Domus Mazziniana of the new volume ‘Il Mazzinianesimo nel mondo’ vol. V;
- 4 p.m. free guided tour of the Domus.
Sunday 9 March - Domus Mazziniana
- noon free guided tour of the Domus;
- 4.30 p.m. ‘Making theatre of history’ with Elvira Frosini, Daniele Timpano, Franco Farina, Carlo Scorrano and Pietro Finelli in collaboration with AIPH and Binario Vivo APS;
Monday 10 March
- 10 a.m. wreath-laying at Mazzini's monument
9 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. free visit to the Domus Mazziniana;
9 p.m. at the Aula Magna of the Polo Carmignani in Piazza dei Cavalieri there will be an official commemoration with free admission but with compulsory booking (subject to availability of places), to be made by 12 noon on Sunday 9 March by writing to eventi@domusmazziniana.it.
Following the institutional greetings of the president of the Domus Mazziniana, Prof. Paolo Maria Mancarella, there will be ‘A certain idea of the Risorgimento: Carducci's Mazzini’, a lectio magistralis by Prof. Andrea Bocchi (University of Udine) with readings by Francesco Ficini and Mariangela Riz of the ‘Lo Spazio Bianco’ Association.
This will be followed by a Risorgimento concert by the University of Pisa Choir and Orchestra, conducted by maestros Stefano Barandoni and Manfred Giampietro respectively. During the concert, La Terza italia - Inno a Giuseppe Mazzini (from Giosuè Carducci) by Manfred Giampietro will be performed for the first time in public.
