The Concert No. 2 for piano and orchestra by S.V. Rachmaninov, performed at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa on 19/5/2024 at 21:00, concludes the Festival "The concerts of Lent and Easter" organized by the Cultural Association MOSAIC and the Company of San Ranieri.
The program of the concert, performed by exceptional artists (Gianni Bicchierini, piano - Wyn Davies, dietician - Orchestra ARCHÉ) includes at the beginning the performance of the Intermezzo by Manon Lescaut by Giacomo Puccini, a tribute to the famous composer from Lucca on the centenary of his death. Following the performance of the Concerto for piano and orchestra n. 2 in C minor, Op. 18., by Sergei Rachmaninov, the most popular and performed of the four piano concertos of the Russian composer, as well as one of the most famous piano concertos of all time. It was composed between 1900 and 1901, at the end of a profound artistic crisis of Rachmaninov due to the failure of his first symphony, and surpassed thanks to the care of Professor Nikolai Dahl.
The concert, very challenging from the artistic and organizational point of view, becomes an exceptional event for the city of Pisa, which intends to pay homage to the great Russian composer and remember his stay in Marina di Pisa in 1906.
