Starting on Sunday 28 January, the Opera della Primaziale Pisana is organising, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Cathedral Chapter, Organ Vespers in the Cathedral. The initiative is part of the programme of celebrations for the 850th anniversary of the Bell Tower of Pisa.
In the wonderful setting of Pisa Cathedral, on the last Sunday of the month, there will be a moment of reflection led by Msgr. Severino Dianich, followed by pieces from the beautiful organ literature of the late 19th and early 20th century. The moment of meditation will precede the afternoon Mass.
On the Mascioni organ, from the contemporary period, present in the Cathedral, six organists among the most titled on the Italian organ scene will take turns to give life to the reflective and meditative space proposed by Severino Dianich.
The first meeting, on Sunday 28 January at 4 pm, will feature Gabriele Agrimonti, titular organist of the Roman basilica of San Luigi dei Francesi, who will perform pieces by Marco Enrico Bossi, Giacomo Puccini and give life to an improvisation on sacred melodies.
The second meeting scheduled for Sunday 25 February at 4 pm is entrusted to the organist of the papal celebrations in the Vatican, Josep Solè Coll, who will perform Marcel Duprè's Simphonie Passion.
On Palm Sunday, 24 March at 4 pm, it will be the turn of Roberto Marini, titular organist of Teramo Cathedral and professor at the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Rome, who will play pieces by J.S. Bach and Max Reger.
On 28 April at 4:30 pm, Matteo Venturini, professor of organ and organ composition at the Conservatory of Vicenza, will perform pieces by J.S. Bach, T. Escaich and Max Reger.
Again on Sunday 26 May at 4:30 pm Stefano Pellini of Modena Cathedral will perform music by G.F. Haendel, E. Elgar Ch. M. Widor.
To conclude, the last appointment with the Organ Vespers, is entrusted to the young but established organist Ilaria Centorrino from Cosenza who will propose on Sunday 30 June at 4:30 pm, pieces by F. Liszt R. Laurin and C. Saint-Saens.
