From Friday 9 May to Friday 20 June 2025, the Museo della Grafica at Palazzo Lanfranchi will host ‘Habitus Fidei. Le vesti delle Confraternite: un cammino fra arte, storia e fede', curated by Lorenzo Cantoni and Alessandro Tosi.
The exhibition proposes a fascinating itinerary through the history of the Confraternities, with a special focus on the confraternal robes and figurative documents that bear witness to their meaning and usage practices. Alongside the robes, paintings, books, prints and other documents relevant to understanding this world are presented.
Pisa, a crossroads of pilgrims along the Via Francigena, has always represented a strategic point for travellers heading to Rome. Its privileged position has favoured centuries of cultural, religious and artistic exchanges, making it the ideal place to host an exhibition that explores the evolution of confraternal traditions through the language of costume.
From 9 May to 20 June 2025, the exhibition will therefore be hosted at the Museo della Grafica (Palazzo Lanfranchi) and the Museo Nazionale di San Matteo. Here, a special itinerary guides visitors through the works of the permanent exhibition, enriched with information that places them within the thematic framework of Habitus Fidei.
Between September and October 2025, the exhibition will move to Lucca, inside the Church and Baptistery of Saints John and Reparata, with a specific focus on the confraternities of Lucca.
The last stop will be Lugano (Switzerland), from 7 to 23 November 2025, where the exhibition will be held at Villa Ciani and will focus on the clothes of Ticino's Confraternities and their role in the religious and social history of the area.
Habitus Fidei offers visitors a unique opportunity to rediscover the richness of a cultural heritage that, over the centuries, has been able to evolve while keeping its identity intact.
