The Migliarino estate is located north of Pisa and extends from the mouth of the Serchio to the border with the province of Lucca. In the Middle Ages it belonged to Countess Matilde di Canossa and then passed to the Archbishopric of Pisa. From the 16th century, it became the property of the Salviati family, a rich family with numerous stalls in the city, who transformed it into an area of great agricultural production, with significant reclamation works and starting the trade of pine nuts that made the park famous throughout the world. Of great importance for the coastal environment is the beach of Marina di Vecchiano, which preserves a long strip of coastal dunes featuring very precious plant species.
The marshes of Massaciuccoli: the mouth of the Serchio had formerly created a marshy area of great extension, which included the lake of Massaciuccoli, known in Roman times as Fosse Papiriane. It is an important stop for migratory birds and bird watching is one of the main tourist attractions. The lake is also famous thanks to the villa where Giacomo Puccini lived, which can be visited.
