Theme of the visits
'The ceramic basins of Pisa's medieval churches. From tableware to wall decoration, a journey through the trade routes of the Mediterranean'.

The dish in the photo, made using an Arab technique and depicting a bird among tree leaves, is one of the fine pieces in the Museum's conspicuous collection of ceramic basins. Coming from local and Mediterranean manufactures, these objects, originally intended for canteens, were often used in Pisa as decorations on the outside walls of churches.
