Christmas in San Rossore: market with products from the Park, visits to the Villa del Gombo and more
The flavours of quality food and wine will be the stars of the weekend at San Rossore: Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 December from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Sala Gronchi at Cascine Vecchie with the second edition of the Christmas market with products from the Park. From the perfumed beach honey to the precious pine nuts of San Rossore, passing through the wine that is born on the sand and the new pecorino cream, it will be an opportunity to get to know the quality eco-friendly products that are made in the territory. Among the novelties are the two companies that have recently become ‘recommended by the Park’: Tenuta Mariani on Lake Massaciuccoli and the Pan di Terra farm in San Piero a Grado. They have joined the group of producers who can use the label that certifies the adoption of quality eco-sustainable agricultural practices and undertakes to promote and communicate the Park's environmental message. Among the companies that have confirmed their presence at the market are: Sapori Mediterranei and Corte Giusti with beach honey, Grassini Pinoli, Caseificio Pedrazzi with pecorino cheese and cream, Macelleria Zivieri with sausages and meat, Pan di Terra with seasonal vegetables, Tenuta Mariani with wine and oil, Le Regine di Parrana San Martino with pollen, La Bottega del Parco with mortadella with pine nuts from San Rossore, the Lipu with a dedicated stall, NegozioVicino.it and Postò who will bring Christmas baskets of Park products.
On this occasion, the Park's 2025 calendar, full of splendid photographs of animals and natural environments, will be presented, while the visitor centre will organise two guided tours to the Presidential Villa del Gombo, starting both days at 11 a.m. (for information, prices and reservations call +39 050-530101 Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.).
Like every weekend, San Rossore can be visited independently for about half of its extension, but it is also possible to organise excursions on horseback (Equitiamo, telephone 3383662431, 3497501087) and by carriage (San Rossore in Carrozza, telephone 330206235), or to join the visit with an environmental guide ‘Trekking da San Rossore al Mare’ to discover magical places that can only be explored accompanied (Azimut-Treks, Sunday 15 December, 339 5675637). On Sunday afternoon the hippodrome comes alive with horse races, while in the morning the Lipu organises an excursion with birdwatching on Lake Massaciuccoli (telephone for bookings 0584 975567), the VerdeSalmastro guides propose trekking in Bocca di Serchio and the WWF leads to the discovery of the Cornacchiaia forest in the Tombolo Estate, the area behind the Pisan coast of Tirrenia and Calambrone.
San Rossore can be reached in an environmentally sustainable manner thanks to the new protected cycle path on the Viale delle Cascine, and at weekends the Autolinee Toscane bus line 26 operates, connecting the railway station and Piazza dei Miracoli to the park with a journey of just 10 minutes, leaving every hour.
