The theme of the Concerto degli Auguri 2024 entitled ‘Divertente sul serio’ is music that amuses: a journey through space and time to explore the various ways in which music has been declined to laugh, to ironise, to poke fun. Some descriptive music, a necessary stop at opera buffa, hilarious film soundtracks and catchphrases from the most hilarious TV series.
However, the focus is always on quality, originality and artistic musical interest: if banal, light and laughable is the object referred to, the music never is. As in every Concerto degli Auguri, we have distilled a programme that is musically rich and pleasant in terms of melodic invention, rhythmic vivacity and timbral variety, a concert that fully engages our musicians and that you will certainly not fail to appreciate.
In the last part of the evening, we celebrate the centenaries of two great composers, Gustav Holst and Giacomo Puccini, with two of their masterpieces that, albeit in different ways, have made them famous.
The title of this Funny Wishes Concert on the Serio perfectly delineates not only this particular programme, which alternates between pieces designed for laughter and decidedly serious music, but also sums up the most profound essence of the daily unfolding of our entire activity: to deal with music of all kinds with the utmost seriousness and commitment. A task that combines a noble cultural intent and an extraordinary social value.
As per tradition, at the entrance it will be possible to leave a free offering in favour of Telethon and/or buy chocolate hearts to support research into rare genetic diseases.
