Monday 16 December at 17:00, in the Auditorium G. Toniolo, will be held a conference to present the restorations just completed in the north transept of the Cathedral of Pisa, that of the Blessed Sacrament, in the presence of H.E. Mons. Giovanni Paolo Benotto and introduced by the President of the Opera delle Primaziale Pisana, Dr. Andrea Maestrelli.
Inside the sacred space of the Cathedral, the transept of the Blessed Sacrament is the place where the faithful can pray, participate in worship and practice confession.
Precisely because of the particular function it fulfils, the intervention project, which has been carried out without interruption just after the pandemic, was the result of a balanced compromise between conservative needs and the need not to interrupt the daily development of religious activities.
Just over two years of work, which have engaged the Maestranze of the sector and material pictorial Opera Primaziale Pisana, in team with some highly specialized external firms to which were entrusted interventions on wooden apparatuses of the box, the decorations in fake marble of plasters, the glass of the window, all carried out with skill and punctuality: a complex web of skills as well as the calendar of works, The same is true for the structure and design of the work, designed in detail so as not to create interference but rather an orderly organization of the work, which will be worked out in successive phases.
The restoration of the transept inside the Blessed Sacrament is in continuity with the restoration of the entire architectural body. In particular, it follows the recent restoration of the dome, the frescoes of the choir attributed to Michelangelo Cinganelli, the marble decoration of the nave, the counter facade and the wooden coffered ceiling, concluded in 2018.
The intervention also fits into a larger project of revision of the stone, pictorial and wooden furnishings of the monumental building, in parallel with the work of restoration material that, for successive lots, concerns the exterior of the building since 2012.
