On the occasion of the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Crossbowmen Company of Pisa, a cultural and commemorative event will be held at the San Michele degli Scalzi Exhibition Centre (SMS) in Pisa on 9 and 10 November. The event will feature an exhibition dedicated to the history of the Company and a conference by Professor Daniele Zucconi, author of the historical essay ‘The Plague of the 14th Century’.
PROGRAMME
SATURDAY 9 NOVEMBER
- 3:30-6:30 p.m. Opening of the exhibition with inaugural performance by the drummers and flag-wavers of the Crossbowmen Company of Pisa
- 4 p.m. Lecture by Professor Daniele Zucconi on the theme of the 14th-century plague, with insights from his book ‘The Plague of the 14th Century’, which investigates the social and historical impact of this devastating epidemic.
SUNDAY 10 NOVEMBER
- 9.30 a.m.-12.30 p.m. the exhibition will continue for the final day, dedicated to the memory of Cavaliere Umberto Moschini, one of the founders and promoters of the Compagnia Balestrieri di Pisa. He passed away on 17 March 2021. Cavaliere Moschini served as President of the Company from 1977 to 2008 and as Honorary President from 2010, also contributing to the birth of the L.I.T.A.B. (Lega Italiana Tiro alla Balestra), of which he was President and Honorary President.
The event is organised under the patronage of the Region of Tuscany and the Municipality of Pisa and enjoys the collaboration of the cultural association Le Piagge Convivio.
The invitation is addressed to all citizens, medieval history enthusiasts and those who wish to celebrate the contribution of the Crossbowmen Company of Pisa to the enhancement of the historical and cultural traditions of the city.
