The Municipality of Pisa will inaugurate on Friday 24 March at 11.00 a.m. the restoration of the Urban Walls at Giardino Scotto, which will allow access to the elevated walkway of the section between the Tower of Sant'Antonio and the Sangallo Bastion. The inauguration ceremony will be attended by the mayor of Pisa Michele Conti, the councillor for public works Raffale Latrofa, the councillor for tourism Paolo Pesciatini, the director of public works of the Municipality of Pisa, Marco Guerrazzi, who directed the restoration work, and the manager of CoopCulture for the Walls of Pisa, Michela Pezzini.
On the occasion of the Capodanno Pisano (New Year's Day in Pisa), on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 March the walkway will be open and accessible to the public from 10-12 in the morning and 16-18 in the afternoon. The opening service will be guaranteed by CoopCulture, the company that, together with Cooperativa Itinera and Promocultura, manages the high altitude walkway of the Walls of Pisa. From 1 April until 30 June, the walls will be open to visitors free of charge, every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 12 pm and 4 pm to 7 pm.
The opening of the newly restored walkway is part of the programme of the Capodanno Pisano (New Year's Day in Pisa), which includes many events in the city, including Saturday 25 March from 10am to 6pm, the medieval re-enactment at the Giardino Scotto by historical groups from Pisa and the province with crossbow shooting, archery and medieval fencing exhibitions, starting in the morning, and puppet shows for children and jesters, with entertainment by Messer Lurinetto, in the afternoon.
